A switched MPC approach of hybrid system for demand side management

The grid-connected photovoltaic-battery hybrid system is widely used in modern communities. Based on the hybrid system, customers' energy demand can be satisfied by renewable energy or battery, then their electricity cost can be reduced. When disturbances on solar energy and load demand occurred, pre-designed control strategy cannot fit system requirements in terms of optimality and safety. In this paper, model predictive control (MPC) is proposed as a closed-loop control approach to achieve real time control. Compared with the open-loop control approach, MPC has great performance improvement in terms of stability and efficiency.
