Dynamic sliceable optical bypasses in SDN-based networks

The growth of Internet traffic requires new strategies to offload congested Internet Protocol (IP) links. The introduction of sliceable optical networks resulted in appurtenance of new possibilities to manage this problem. In this paper, a dynamic sliceable optical bypassing policy is proposed to omit congested IP links in the software-defined networking (SDN) architecture. The experimental verification of the proposed method have shown that implementation of the analyzed strategy improves IP transmission with reduced usage of IP resources. The use of a SDN-based centralized controller allows to introduce different portions of resources available at sliceable and IP layers. Considering the sliceable optical layer for offloading transmission makes the presented concept ready for the future Internet traffic.
