A design of target detector based on fractal difference value

Hurst exponent can be used to describe the fractal characteristics of a nonlinear time series. The Hurst exponent of target in sea clutter is investigated in this paper by analyzing the fractal structure. In addition, a novel target detector is designed based on fractal difference value, which constructed by Hurst exponent and variance fractal dimension. The difference between the target and sea clutter can be increased by using this method. And the performance of the target detector is certified on the basis of the theoretical analysis and the required radar data from Pingtan test in Fujian province, compared with the traditional method of threshold segmentation.
