Path diversity for non-geostationary orbit satellite communication systems using the constellation of GPS

The analysis of the received data of GPS to study the path diversity effects of NGO satellite systems is presented. Measurements are conducted in the downtown Taipei vicinity. Three cases of different user mobility (fixed-point, pedestrian, and vehicular) are examined, and the switching and maximum ratio combining method are compared for path diversity gain. The results imply that significant fade reduction and great diversity gain can be expected in NGO satellite PCS. By combining the received signals of 2 satellites, significant diversity gain can be obtained at any given user scenario.
