Thermal simulation of an oil-cooled permanent magnet synchronous motor

Although the drive motor system design has made great breakthroughs in recent years, there are still open technological challenges in having a reliable and accurate thermal prediction of electric machine under operating conditions. Temperature is the critical limiting factor for deciding the load ability of machine, as overheating will result in degradation of insulation materials, magnet demagnetization and this will impact the efficiency and life of the machine. Then, it is very important how to predict and avoid the excessive temperature rise of E-motor in design stage by using thermal simulation methods. A multi - physics coupling analysis method was developed in this paper, and this method can effectively predict the temperature distribution of the motor through the bench test verification.
