Chlorine gas sensor to work in high humidity atmosphere

In the presented work a resistive chlorine sensor with sensing layer in the form of zinc oxide microrods were presented. The test were performed in pure air or with 2 ppm of chlorine in both cases in different humidity levels. Obtained results clearly showed that developed sensors can detected Cl2 concentration in humid atmospheres. In all measured cases the conductivity of active layer decreased in a contact with chlorine. This phenomenon is connected with Cl
₂
interaction with directly with ZnO surface or oxygen vacancies. According to water molecules adsorption and reaction between H
₂
O and chlorine the conductance and sensitivity functions in the temperature are different for each humidity value.
