A closed-form two-step target localization in MIMO radar systems using BR measurements

This study introduces a closed-form two step target localization algorithm to localize a single target in the presence of multiple transmitters and receivers from time difference of arrival (TDOA) measurements. This algorithm is based on the intersection of ellipsoids which are defined by bistatic range (BR) measurements from several transmitters and receivers. The method includes two steps, which the first one estimates the position of the target and some nuisance parameters and the second one eliminates the nuisance parameters and improves the estimation of target position. Furthermore, in both steps of the proposed algorithm, a weighted least squares (WLS) method is employed. In addition, it has been theoretically proved and shown by simulation results that the proposed method can attain the Cramer-Rao lower bound (CRLB) performance under the small noise condition.
