A Curvature Sensor Based on Tapered Triple Cladding Quartz Specialty Fiber

A curvature sensor based on tapered triple cladding quartz specialty fiber (TTCQSF) is proposed. It is formed by a section of triple cladding quartz specialty fiber which is tapered after splicing both ends of it with single-mode fibers (SMFs). Then a SMF-TTCQSF-SMF structure is fabricated. The experimental results show that the curvature sensitivity is -6.52nm/m

in the range of 0~1.293m

in the range of 0.473~1.293m

. The sensor is small in size, simple in structure and easy to fabricate. So it will have a good application prospect in the fields of curvature measurement.
