Evaluation of user behavior and network performance in Malaysian Institution of Higher Education (MIHE) of wireless network

The increase of the web 2.0 applications and the Spread of mobile devices in the institution of higher education and increasing users lead to slow wireless connection. Moreover, the uses of different web 2.0 application lead to the consumption more bandwidth where the web 2.0 has inspired intense and growing interest, particularly as social networks, search engines, multimedia, markets and news, education, and other sites. Therefore, understanding the user behavior and classification of traffics helps us to manage, develop Wireless LAN technology, and deployment planning. This paper consists of two parts: firstly, we capture the data from the core switch which is connected with the distribution switches that link the Access Point (APs) with the wireless network at educational institutions. Secondly, we focus on analyzing the Internet traffic in educational institutions wireless networks. In this paper, the findings observe that most bandwidths are consumed by the applications of social networks and UDP of user applications. Moreover, the packet length between 80-159 bytes is very high and the throughput arrives at 25% of trafficson Sunday with the load being increased. This paper investigates the network performance and users' behavior in Malaysian Institution of Higher Education MIHE of wireless network.
