Design and simulation of microstrip patch array antenna for electronic scanning Radar application

Nowadays, in some applications related to Radar systems, it is needed to detect targets in different directions. The use of mechanical devices to allow beam steering could be slow and power consuming. In fact, as a solution, electronic scanning radars permit to easily control the beam steering electronically. It uses an electronic device controlling an array antenna. This paper presents a patch array antenna consisting of 8 radiating elements. The structure is fed by microstrip feed line with 50Ω impedance. It is printed on FR-4 substrate with dielectric constant of ε

=4.3. The study will detail the design and simulation of both single and array antennas. The simulations of this study are performed on Advanced Design System (ADS) and results are given to verify this design.
