Predictive set point modulation technique to enhance the dynamic response of a power system

This paper presents a new prediction approach for the set point automatic adjustment with correction enabled (SPAACE) algorithm. SPAACE is an autonomous supplementary controller that works between the primary and secondary controllers of a device and modifies its reference set point to mitigate the possible transients. Power system generally operates close to its operational limits and transients can cause a device to violate its maximum allowable limits. To control a device to operate under different operating conditions, SPAACE improves the set point tracking of a controllable device in a system. In this paper, to further improve the performance of SPAACE, Lagrange polynomial prediction method is introduced. Moreover, the sensitivity of the response of SPAACE with linear and exponential prediction approaches to a step change in the reference value of the control input signal is studied. Several case studies are presented to evaluate the performance of the proposed strategies.
