Designing and simulation of load control & monitoring system through Demand Side Management technique

The term Demand Side Management (DSM) was introduced in 1973 energy crisis. We know that electrical energy is in the form of energy which cannot be stored on a large scale. So the electricity should be produced, distributed and supplied to the user immediately. There is a large difference between peak demand and average which results in high generation cost per unit and load shedding. It is impossible for developing countries to meet the demand by installing new power plants. The only smart way in handling these crises is Demand Side Management (DSM) techniques. DSM focuses on optimal utilization of available electricity during peak and off-peak hours, this helps to maintain consumer's load curve according to objective load curve. In this technique, we will analyze load curve of customer demand and then shift that load curve from peak load hours to off-peak hours using available resources. The whole project is based on three phases. In the first phase, we will choose an area of collecting data. After this, we will draw load curve of that data on MATLAB and reshape it into objective load curve in which load is shifted from peak hours to off-peak hours. The second phase is to design a controller at both utility and consumer end where two-way communications will be established between consumers and utility, after this we will design a prototype of this project. In short the outcome of this project will help to reduce the energy crises in under-developed countries in such a short time. If this project will be installed efficiently on a large scale, energy problems can be reduced in shorter time period.
