Modal method based on B-spline expansion for bi-periodic binary gratings

The modal method by B-spline expansion is formulated for binary crossed gratings. Matrix operators associated to constitutive relations are derived following rules similar to the so-called “Fourier factorization rules” used in the Fourier Modal Method. We obtain a better convergence with the B-spline Modal Method than with the latter.
