Design of reconfigurable filtering based UWB antenna dedicated for radar applications

A design and simulation of a smart UWB antenna applicable in radars systems is reported in this research. The proposed configuration consists of monopole UWB antenna printed on FR-4 low-cost substrate with dimensions of 35 × 35 mm

. The present UWB antenna performs in the frequency spectrum 3.1-10.6 GHz. Through reconfiguration, the antenna has the ability to intelligently manage the problem of the interferences comes from the three narrow bands WiMAX 3.3 - 3.6 GHz, WLAN 5.15 - 5.825 GHz and ITU 8.025 - 8.40 GHz. The reconfiguration is achieved by using three slots inserted into the geometry when there ideal switches is used to control the slots effects. The antenna is designed optimized and simulated using commercial electromagnetic software CST Microwave Studio. The obtained results are good enough where a broad impedance bandwidth is achieved against S11 less than minus 10 dB almost in all the operational states.
