An engineer, accountant, and EHS manager went out in a boat

These parties are often in the same boat, but they are rarely seen pulling together in the actual voyages of corporations on the treacherous waters of global competition. I use the plight of pollution prevention and green design initiatives in corporations to illustrate the problem and its implications. Within many firms, engineers, accountants, financial decision-makers, and environment/health/safety (EHS) managers communicate poorly. The result is missed opportunities for environmental improvements, cost reductions, and increased profits. Fixing the problem involves individual efforts plus changes in educational, financial, managerial, and regulatory institutions.
