Design and Analysis of a Superconducting Induction Magnetic Levitation Device for Vertical Hydraulic Generator

To solve the problem caused by the heavily axial gravity load of the rotor and main shaft of the vertical hydraulic generators, a superconducting induction magnetic levitation device is proposed in this paper. AC superconducting windings are implemented to increase the levitation force. The inductive eddy magnetic field acts back on the primary field, and the levitation force and rotation torque will be produced between the primary and the secondary. A multistage primary is implemented to eliminate the rotation torque and enhance the levitation force. 3-D finite element method (FEM) is used to analyze the proposed device. In addition, the ac loss power is analyzed and estimated. The levitation force and rotation torque are deprived and analyzed under different conditions. Simulation results show that the proposed levitation device is well-suited for the de-load application of hydraulic turbo-generators.
