Multilayer Network Analysis of Polish Parliament 4 Years before and after Smolenńk Crash

One of the most significant events in Poland after communism broke up was the emergence of internal conflict after Polish president's plane crash on 10.04.2010. We investigate relations between political parties in Poland by opinion polls, members transitions between political parties and official speeches in Polish Parliament 4 years before and after Smoleńsk crash. These relations represent medial perception of distances between parties. We observe a topological difference in networks that represent connections between political parties - before and after this critical phenomenon. The polarization occurs on PO (Civic Platform, the ruling party since 2007) - PiS (Law and Justice, main opposition since 2007) line, because of stronger negative correlations according to opinion polls, weaker transitions between these parties and language similarities after 10.04.2010. However, the real political acts do not take place in the media, but in the government or the Parliament, where voting correlations are almost constant. In this study, we compare relations between political parties according to their external image and their real voting in the Parliament including random base-line models. We present political relations in governmental and medial perception. This paper is going to figure out both ways of this polarization.
