Design and analysis of a broadband single layer circuit analog absorber

In this paper, a broadband polarization-insensitive single layer circuit analog absorber has been presented. The proposed absorber consists of a periodic arrangement of square loops loaded with lumped resistors, which exhibits 10-dB bandwidth from 7.56 GHz to 14.58 GHz under normal incidence, covering X and Ku bands. The structure has been characterized by deriving its equivalent circuit model, where the circuit simulation shows good matching with the full-wave analysis. The effects of the lumped resistors and the dielectric loss have been studied and several parametric variations are performed to examine the sensitivity of the design parameters on the absorption bandwidth. Furthermore, the structure has been fabricated and measured in anechoic chamber, where the experimental results are in good agreement with the simulated responses.
