Novel spot-size converters for Silicon photonics

In this paper we have proposed a novel spot-size converter without using a reverse taper. The converter is realized by using a phase matched multilayer array with the Silicon nanowire. Finite Element method and Least Squares Boundary Residual method have been used for the analysis. Results show significant improved coupling which increases from 1% in case of direct nanowire coupling to 53% when the array is butt coupled to a fiber.
