Synthesis of Difference Patterns for Monopulse Antennas by an Improved Cuckoo Search Algorithm

Monopulse antennas play an important role in realizing tracking radar. In this letter, we present an improved cuckoo search (ICS) algorithm to optimize the difference patterns of monopulse antennas. In order to balance the exploration and exploitation of the algorithm, two new search schemes are incorporated into standard cuckoo search to enrich the searching behavior and solution quality and to avoid being trapped into the local optimum. In order to verify the performance of our algorithm, the proposed algorithm is tested with three different cases. The results of these three instances show that the proposed ICS algorithm outperforms other evolutionary algorithms.
