Computational and experimental analysis between compact distribution lines' spacers under polluted environments

This paper presents a comparative computational and experimental study of lozenge spacers, which is a commonly used accessory on compact lines. The model was implemented in AutoCAD, and then transferred to a COMSOL Multiphysics simulation environment. In the study, a relationship was identified between electrical magnitudes and the accumulation of pollution on the analyzed part. It was observed that high pollution levels cause higher electrical stress on the spacer, and higher voltage distribution along certain points, thereby causing possible insulation faults. The geometry of the spacer was also investigated, through implementing the dynamic model. The importance of the geometry was recognized in order to increase the electrical supportability of the spacer and thus alleviate the stress caused by the accumulation of pollution.
