Guest Editorial Connected Vehicles for Safer, Greener, and More Efficient Transportation

The papers in this special section focus on improvements to connected vehicle (CV) technologies that make these vehicles safer and more efficient. CV applications provide connectivity among vehicles to enable crash prevention between vehicles and the infrastructure to enable safety, mobility, and environmental benefits and among vehicles, infrastructure, and wireless devices to provide continuous real-time connectivity to all system users. The potential of CVs has been acknowledged with the establishment of ambitious research programs around the globe. Despite the potential vision of CV systems, there are numerous design challenges remaining to be addressed before widespread deployment of CV systems. The aim of this series is to present a collection of high-quality research papers on the state-of-the-art in the emerging technologies for CVs, the latest development in standardizations and regulations, as well as the potential services and applications for CV systems.
