Design of an orthogonal power divider with reconfigurable power division ratio

The design method for a new orthogonal Hybrid coupler with reconfigurable power division ratio is proposed in this paper. A new T-type impedance transformer loaded with variable capacity is used to take the place of 1/4 wavelength transmission line in the traditional Hybrid coupler and play the role of real-time adjustment of power division ratio. In order to verify the accuracy of this design method, Hybrid branch-line coupler is hereby designed and simulated, which works at 2.0GHz (1.98∼2.02GHz). As the emulational result is shown, this orthogonal power divider can realize the continuous change of the power division ratio from 1∶2 to 1∶4, the electromagnetic wave signal phase at the output port always keep its orthogonal property during the adjustment. Additionally, with such advantages as small circuit size, simple and compact structure and easy integration, the power divider can be applied to microwave hybrid and integrated circuits.
