2-D moving particle simulation on dynamic motion of a damaged ship with oil leaking in waves

In the present study, the dynamic behaviors of a 2-dimensional ship section damaged in waves are predicted using the PNU-MPS (Pusan-National-University-modified Moving Particle Simulation) method with applying the corrected gradient model and SPS (Sub-Particle Scale) turbulence model. To estimate the motion of a floating body, either equation of motion or passively moving-solid model can be used, in which the latter is commonly used in particle-based method. As a preliminary test, the free roll decay problem was simulated adopting these two methods and, the results were validated by comparison with the experiments. And then, motion analysis on a damaged ship in waves was carried out with empty cargo tank and influence of the initial draft on the motion was investigated. Finally, the dynamic behavior of ship, of which cargo is assumed as partially-filled with oil, in waves with and without damage was simulated. Resultantly, the case that liquid cargo is loaded on the ship showed more stable motion compared to the case of loading solid cargo. And also, in case the ships loaded with oil was damaged, oil leaked from damaged part, and the appearance of leaked oil spilling to inland sea with the lapse of time could be confirmed.
