From distribution feeder to microgrid: An insight on opportunities and challenges

As one of the key options for distribution network modernization, distribution feeder-based MicroGrid (MG) is gaining increasing interest worldwide. However, there has been few work done on feeder-based MG and related issues in the literature. It is therefore necessary to devote some effort to identify the current state-of-the-art of feeder-based MG systems especially regarding potential issues that might be associated to the deployment of this kind of MG. Thus, this paper performs comprehensive literature review and aims to identify the current status, future challenges and opportunities of turning existing passive distribution feeders into active MGs and to move one small step in the direction of future MGs.
