A study on models of radar detection rate and false alarm rate

The existing target signal distribution models are analyzed in this paper, and the Nakagami-Rice distribution model, which facilitates prediction, is introduced. Based on the latter, general models of radar detection rate are derived for both slow and fast fluctuating targets. The general models not only well reflect the characteristics of third and fourth Swerling targets, but also can degenerate to special forms for first and second Swerling targets and for a non-fluctuating target. Furthermore, models are presented for radar detection rate and false alarm rate in clutter. Their application in microwave propagation is also briefly discussed.
