On-line, incremental atlas processing

This paper describes the software for processing the ATLAS Language used in a test system recently developed by Hughes Aircraft Company. The system pro vides for on-line, interactive editing of ATLAS pro grams using an incremental compiler. The compiler uses a high-level meta-language to define the syntax and semantics of a subset of IEEE standard ATLAS. Use of a medium-level machine-independent implementation language and simplification of the operating system interface make it possible to install the language processing software on most 16-bit mini-computers. This paper covers the software design and its goals, experience using the system, and considerations for future systems.
