Impact of mobile communications technology on rural telecommunications

Bringing high performance telecommunications systems to rural and suburban areas is a matter of strategic importance for their economic growth. Mobile communications technologies now make it possible to offer solutions appropriate to rural telecommunications requirements, on very favourable cost terms. This paper compares the available technologies, in terms of the functionalities they offer and their cost effectiveness, ISN before comprehensively analysing the 'CT2/CAI cordless technology', and describing the Tangara/RD system designed for subscriber radio access networks in rural and suburban areas.
