Stability of discrete-time networked control systems under denial of service attacks

This paper presents stability analysis for linear discrete time networked control systems under denial of service (DoS) attacks. Packet loss due to DoS is modeled using an i.i.d Bernoulli random process such that when a packet is dropped, the controller uses the most recent successfully transmitted packet for control. Stability criteria and a network reliability threshold for stability are established. Two examples, an unstable oscillator and an inverted pendulum system, are presented to demonstrate stability and instability based on the network reliability caused by DoS attacks.
