AEP Ohio: Working to build a smarter grid

American Electric Power (AEP), through its gridSMART initiative, has been actively engaged in planning, deploying, and evaluating smart grid technologies and programs across the 11-state AE P system since 2007. This initiative integrates a suite of advanced grid technologies into the existing electrical network to improve service quality and reliability, lower energy consumption, and save customers money. These new technologies can help AEP improve efficiencies, identify and respond to outages more quickly, and better monitor and control the operation of the distribution grid.
