Nonreciprocal combinatorial frequency generation induced by non-Hermitian hyperbolic systems

The effects of nonreciprocal resonance scattering in the nonlinear loss-compensated semiconductor-dielectric multilayers with hyperbolic dispersion are explored. The three-wave mixing technique is applied to study the nonlinear processes. It is shown that the introduction of gain for dielectric layers can compensate the losses in linear response of the stack and enhance the efficiency of the mixing processes in the stack with passive semiconductor layers with resistive type of nonlinearity. It is shown that weak nonreciprocity of linear response can lead to significant nonreciprocity of nonlinear interaction.
