Architecture And Algorithm For Visual Information Processing

The visual nervous system with the features of both distributive and massive connections processes the optical image captured by the photoreceptor array in a parallel and concurrent fashion. We can consider that the visual system is organized in a three dimensional architecture. This article describes the features of the structure and function of the visual nervous system and proposes two fundamental operations: 1). Discontinuity and change detection. 2). Correspondence detection. These two operations can be performed parellelly in a new type processor with a three dimensional architecture. Many tasks of visual perception may be fulfilled by means of a combination of these two operations.
