Odd-mode Doherty power amplifier

This paper presents a novel doherty architecture, providing wideband efficient RF power amplification along-with wideband class-AB second harmonic terminations for a rugged and reliable operation. A prototype is developed, based on this architecture which provides more than 40% average efficiency at an average output power of 220W over most of the UHF broadcast band, while maintaining the peak output power capability of more than 1.4kW. The second harmonic at the output of the DPA is suppressed by more than 30dBc and the pre-distortability of the DPA is demonstrated with commercially available broadcast TV transmitter exciters.
