Capacity of a slotted code division multiple access system for wireless in-house network communications

The capacity of indoor (in-house) packet radio channels is investigated for a star-connected multiple access network with a unique spread-spectrum code for each user considering direct sequence spread spectrum (DS/SSMA) communication. Such a protocol is commonly known as a code division multiple access (CDMA) method. The influence of micro diversity on the channel capacity is also studied, assuming a Gaussian approximation for Rayleigh fading interferers. The capacity of a radio channel is defined as the maximum throughput obtained for varying offered traffic to the channel. Computational results are presented for both slow and fast Rayleigh fading indoor radio channels with BPSK (binary phase shift keying) and DPSK (differential phase shift keying) modulation schemes.
