PAM vs. DMT: A performance comparison of modulation formats for IMDD

We examine several compensation methods for pulse amplitude modulation (PAM) using a C-band silicon modulator with segmented electrodes. We then compared PAM vs. discrete multi-tone (DMT) experimentally using an O-band silicon modulator for different fiber lengths up to 20 km. Numerical comparison has been done between 100 Gb/s C-band DMT and 100 Gb/s O-band PAM for different laser linewidths (up to 5 MHz) and different fiber lengths (up to 100 km).
