Characteristic Analysis of a Fully Controlled Bridge Type Superconducting Fault Current Limiter

A fully controlled bridge-type superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL) is a kind of electronically controlled SFCL without the need for a bias power supply and using fast-response power electronic switches instead of the commonly used diodes. Compared with the traditional bridge-type SFCLs, the fully controlled bridge-type SFCL effectively shortens the response time to suit various power applications and limits both transient and steady fault currents. The circuit topology of the proposed SFCL has been introduced with a simulation model and analysis results. Both transient and steady states' current characteristics obtained with the developed equivalent circuits have identified the effectiveness of this kind of SFCL.
