Universal To Device Controller By Using Programmable Logic Arrays (pla)

A flexible IO device controller architecture with a PLA and a microprocessor is introduced. By use of the CPU interface control, great flexibility to various CPU interfaces can be achieved. Applicability to many kinds of device controllers and capability to extend functions are also achieved under microprogrammed control. The implementation of this architecture to a disk con troller shows the reduction of packaging area to 1/3 of that of the conventional hardwired controller.
