Coal combustion and ash collections in high temperature flow

An experimental and theoretical study of mechanisms governing coal particle combustion and ash separation is presented. A high-temperature countercurrent combustor and an inertial separator were studied for a range of conditions in which sticking ash appeared. The performance of a rotational-flow combustor and a multicyclone-type ash separator were strongly influenced by gas scavenging. Changes in the construction of the systems improved efficiency and reliability. A theoretical model for the gas phase using the two-equation turbulence approach was solved for a domain corresponding to sophisticated configurations. The effects of heterogeneous combustion and of particle drag are superimposed on the aerodynamics.<
