Dynamic simulation of a superconducting augmented linear propulsion system

Linear propulsion systems usually require currents up to several mega amperes to achieve reasonably high accelerating forces and propulsion speeds, unless high magnetic fields can be established. The high magnetic fields can be provided externally, such as superconducting augmentation. C. G. Homan published several papers in regard to such systems, but the models were relatively simple. This paper presents an improved model of a superconducting augmented linear propulsion system. A dynamic simulation was carried out. The results show that superconducting augmentation is effective for the linear propulsion system.
