The application of commercial processing technologies to the airborne military environment

The OSCAR/Harrier II program has broken new ground in terms of introducing COTS avionic applications. Our customers are requiring performance definitions significantly in excess of those required in the past for point solution designs. While they are attempting to tailor requirements from old military specifications to the "real" operational environment, their requirements are still challenging. While the solutions provided to customers are employing commercial standards and off-the-shelf products, a major role to be played by the integrating organization is to become the "trusted subsystem integrator.". The organization will "put wrappers" around the commercial technologies so as to meet customers' needs.
