Load effect on the output current generated from the switched reluctance generator

A switched reluctance machine has been considered as one of the promising singly excited variable speed drives. Operating the switched reluctance machine as a generator is being tested to evaluate its assets as a direct current generator driven by a variable speed primemover. As the internal inductance for switched reluctance machines varies with overlapping angle between stator and rotor, the generated current will depend on the overall circuit impedance. In this paper, the impact of load resistance and inductance on the generated current are studied based on monitoring the instantaneous machine inductance trajectory. The output characteristics of the generator are also investigated.
