Computational geometry of heart surfaces

A method for the three-dimensional reconstruction of the ventricular epicardial surface and its motion by biplane coronary angiography is illustrated and discussed. An estimate of the epicardial surface is obtained by minimizing a smoothness functional over the set of all the surfaces satisfying the input-data constraints. A specific smoothness function is described. A similar approach is applied to estimate the epicardial displacement field. In this way a more complete use of available motion data as well as a full utilization of kinematic descriptors of heart motion is made possible.<
