Modulation and warping operators in joint signal analysis

We define two broad classes of unitary operator families termed modulation and warping operators. Some fundamental relations connecting these operators are shown. Application of the characteristic function method and the covariance method to modulation and warping operators yields joint (a, b), (/spl alpha/, /spl beta/), and time-frequency signal representations that satisfy marginal and covariance properties.
