Compact Slot Antenna With Low Dispersion for Ground Penetrating Radar Application

Highly compact slot antennas fed by coplanar waveguide were designed, fabricated, and integrated with ground penetrating radar system. The low-profile slot antenna demonstrated wide frequency bandwidth of 1.4-3.5 GHz, with over 6-dBi radiation gain and small dispersion. GPR tests in both air-coupled and ground-coupled modes with sandbox and concrete slab verified its high resolution and good penetrating capability, showing its great potential in compact under-vehicle GPR system application.
