Consistent finite integration approach for coupled computation of static current distributions and electromagnetic fields

The finite integration theory (FIT) is a proven consistent discretisation method for the computation of electromagnetic fields. This paper introduces the application of FIT to the calculation of static current flow fields and the coupled evaluation of magnetic fields. A consistent translation of the current density J/spl I.oarr/, which the static current solver allocates at the grid edges, to cell surfaces is presented. All analytical properties of fields and fluxes are maintained by this method. This enables the further calculation of current excited magnetostatic problems. Several applications, e.g. the current flow and the corresponding magnetic field in a semiconductor, are presented.
