Method of handling disconnected regions in FEM model of eddy currents

The present paper outlines a new application of the current iteration method used previously to handle open boundaries. The article describes how to use this approach to couple disconnected regions in the finite element (FE) model of electromagnetic fields. The basics of the procedure are demonstrated by using the example of the 2D eddy currents (skin effect) problem with a voltage excitation. The current iteration method is based on the analytical solution of the governing equation in a free space. This analytical approximation is coupled with the FE approximation in an iterative algorithm. It may be easily incorporated into an existing FE code, Numerical examples which are presented in the article show the particular usefulness of the method for coupling FE approximations in disconnected regions.
