A novel maximum power point tracking algorithm for large-inertia WTGS

The energy conversion efficiency is decreased by the high inertia of large-scale wind turbine generation system (WTGS). A novel maximum power point tracking (MPPT) algorithm was proposed in this paper to enhance the efficiency. The algorithm was derived from conventional optimum torque control (OTC) MPPT strategy using gradient approximation. To qualify the stability and dynamic performance, a small signal model of proposed method was presented in this paper. Simulation was also studied by means of MATLAB/Simulink software. The analysis and simulation results show that the proposed MPPT algorithm has good stability and dynamic performance. The efficiency is higher than conventional OTC method.
