Wind turbine radar clutter statistics and probability of detection

A wind farm within the line of sight of a radar not only generates unwanted radar returns in the form of false targets but also severely impacts the radar's ability to detect targets of interest in the vicinity of the farm. In this work statistical RCS models of wind turbines are developed based on actual wind turbine clutter measurements and detection probabilities of Swerling-1 targets as well as unwanted wind turbines are calculated. Results are compared to those obtained by assuming that wind turbine clutter is Rayleigh (or Exponentially) distributed.
