Performance Of Conventional Power System Stabilizers In A Series Compensated Transmission System

The paper deals with the analysis of dynamic stability of a single machine connected to an infinite bus through a series compensated transmission line, considering conventional Power System Stabilizers. Investigations reveal that the optimum PSS parameters obtained for light or nominal loading conditions remain practically unchanged with compensation. However, under heavy operating loads, they need be reset for compensated system. The nominal optimum PSS gives satisfactory dynamic performance for operating ranges around and below the nominal and this performance is practically unaffected by the degree of compensation.
