Bounds on the a priori channel transition probabilities for trellis-based channel codes

This paper derives union bounds on the a priori transition probabilities p(j|i) resulting when n-bit message index i is coded with a trellis-based channel code, transmitted over a noisy channel, and then decoded with the Viterbi algorithm.
